Convergencias 2012: Mexico's road map forward
Friday, February 24, 2012 at 6:00 PM - Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 12:00 PM (EST)
New Haven, CT
Convergencias started as a three-day conference held in February of 2007 on Yale campus to bring together Mexican students in the Northeast to discuss current and relevant topics related to Mexico's development. Convergencias was then held again in 2009, 2010 and 2011 at the University of Pennsylvania. This year, the Yale Mexican Student Organization has decided to host the conference at Yale once again this upcoming February.
Mexico finds itself today at a unique and critical juncture in its history. Economically, politically and socially, the country faces important challenges ahead, exacerbated by the conflict with the drug cartels, the global economic meltdown, and persistent social and economic inequality. The 2012 presidential elections promise to be a defining moment for Mexico's development and international esteem. Equally important, the challenges facing the new presidency will be pivotal in considering the future of Mexico. Convergencias 2012: Mexico's road map forward will aim at creating debate and discussion regarding these two intertwined issues - the importance of the elections, and Mexico's path in the near future.
